ARE YOU PUTTING ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET?
I wrote a blog post called Are You A Just Don't Need To Company on The Editor's Touch ... this post today is semi related to that .. so if you didn't read that one the link is << back there :)
These days it's 'easier' to become an overnight success than it was when I started my first wedding planning business in 2006 ... 'hitting the pavement' and getting in front of real people isn't as important ... SOME would say ... I am not SOME ...
I DON'T BELIEVE IN RELYING ON ANY ONE THING TO BE A SUCCESS STORY
Putting all your eggs in one basket will cause a lot of problems for you if that basket ever gets knocked over ... it's one of the main reasons I also don't believe in being a member of a business professional clique ... what happens if you depend too much on that group and the group breaks off ... utoh.
I try very hard to make sure I have my hands in all things that lead to success ... even if I don't think I'm getting anything out of it. You never know what is adding up to create success .... while I don't ever really see traffic or leads from Twitter, it could be doing something I don't know about ... maybe people do click into my Twitter feed from my website just to see what's up ... and then they decide based on that to contact me ... it may be a far reach, but you really NEVER KNOW!
EGGS I KNOW FOR A FACT ARE WORTH CRACKING:
Posting to Instagram and making sure to interact with other posts by commenting
Blogging at least 3 times per month
Advertising on platforms that attract my target market audience
Redesigning my website at least once every 2-3 years
Keeping strong and meaningful relationships with other business owners who share my goals and drive
Updating my logo / brand every 3-5 years
EGGS I CRACK EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO FOR ME:
Tweeting
Pinning from my website to Pinterest
Are there more things I do? Yes indeed ... I've written a few blog posts on The Editor's Touch about things I believe successful business owners do ... I also shared more specifically what makes a wedding photographer a success and what I believe the recipe for attracting a higher end client is ...
The other thing I must repeat and can't say enough is:
DON'T ALLOW YOURSELF TO BECOME COMFY-COZY IN BUSINESS!
That is the kiss of death, honestly. Business is a living, breathing, ever changing thing ... the second you decide you aren't going to change with it and adapt as it updates how things are done and what clients want to see is the second someone else will come in and fill your spot! In fact, we’ve all learned this last year just how IMPORTANT being able to adapt and adjust is when it comes to being a business owner.
So go update your website, go blog, go post and comment on Instagram ... send out a Tweet even though you know you'll hear crickets! Everything works together to create success ... there is no ONE THING that will make your business take off.
Happy Easter Weekend!
