ARE YOU CAPABLE OF RELINQUISHING CONTROL TO ALLOW GREAT THINGS TO HAPPEN?
The type of client I typically design for comes from a creative industry (weddings and events, interior designers, etc) … they make things from their own talents and sell that product or service to someone else. 9 times out of 10, my clients allow me to do what I do best:
CREATE AMAZING ONLINE SPACES THAT HELP ELEVATE WHAT THEY MADE HAPPEN FOR THEIR BUSINESS.
But every once in a while, I just can’t get it right for them … even when I design EXACTLY what they asked for … and I often wonder:
DO THEY REALLY HATE WHAT I DESIGNED OR DO THEY HATE THAT THEY DIDN’T COME UP WITH IT THEMSELVES.
Being a creative business owner is hard … you are constantly having to prove how awesome you are in order to make an income … it can be stressful and the pressure of having to always ‘one up’ your last great idea can take a toll … which can turn into a creative rut …
When I get a client who I am designing beautiful things for in the way I was asked to design them and they don’t like it, it often means they are control freaks … and I get it: I’m a control freak … I am also someone who believes that I can always do it better … which makes me an impossible person to design for. But I know this about myself and so I rarely hire anyone to do something for me … LOL
IS THIS YOU?
If you are a control freak but you want to hire someone to design something for you, you will probably drive both yourself and the person you hired a little bonkers …
If you know you can’t be happy or pleased unless you are staring one of YOUR OWN CREATIONS in the face, is it even fair to hire someone else to do something for you?
And, are you a little narcissistic? LOL … that topic is for another day … but maybe a little bit … hahaha …
It is maddening to spend time designing something to a client’s exact specifications and to have them say: nope, that’s not it … over and over and over again … it reminds me of the client who says this during your initial consultation <<
There are amazing creatives out there … if you are a creative hiring a creative, ask yourself if you only love something YOU YOURSELF have made … ask yourself if you are capable of relinquishing control to a great designer and allowing them to do what they do best.
