I LOST AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY AND HERE IS WHAT IāM DOING ABOUT IT
A little over a week ago, I interviewed for a website design project for an interior designer ⦠I loved the connection we had, the conversation was amazing, her branding and work spoke to me, and more importantly:
I KNEW I WAS THE RIGHT ONE FOR THIS PROJECT
I felt so good when we got off the phone ⦠followed up via email ⦠letās just say: I felt like it was going to happen ⦠and then I got the email:
āI ENDED UP HIRING SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE THEY HAD MORE EXPERIENCE WITH INTERIOR DESIGNERSā
Now, as a website designer who specializes in creating GORGEOUS and LUXURIOUS spaces, I knew it didnāt matter whether it was florals, event rental pieces, gorgeous ballrooms filled with wedding tablescapes, or interiors of a home ⦠What I specialize in is creating gorgeous online places that are optimized and create low bounce rates no matter the ācontentā ⦠I KNOW WEBSITES ⦠but when it comes to trusting someone with a large investment like a website, my clients need to SEE SOMETHING ⦠and while I have designed for over 10 interior designers before, it was years ago and the work (by now) was dated ⦠and I donāt keep everything in my portfolio ā¦
Rather than get defensive and tell this client: āNO, I CAN DO IT!! PICK ME!!ā ⦠I decided to fix the issue so this never happens again ⦠because I know that I can design for ANY BUSINESS ⦠but I also have to be able to show it.
I used the loss of this client as motivation to not only teach myself new skills (which will also pour into my wedding and event industry clients) but I designed a gorgeous website collection that is completely devoted to INTERIOR DESIGNERS ⦠I will be rolling it out next week and Iām so excited!
