WHY I BELIEVE BUSINESS FB GROUPS ARE A TOTAL WASTE OF YOUR TIME
I'm about to say some things ... some of you may hate me for it ... I'm gonna do it anyway.
BUSINESS FACEBOOK GROUPS ARE A TIME SUCK
… see, I told you I was going to say some sh*t ... How often have you been scrolling through a FB ‘business advice’ group page and see this message from one of the mediators:
TODAY ISN'T THE DAY YOU'RE ALLOWED TO SHARE LINKS IN POSTS ... YOU CAN DO THAT ON WEDNESDAY ... AND YOU CAN'T POST THEM HERE, BUT INSIDE A WORD DOC IN THE DOCUMENTS SECTION ... THIS POST WILL NOW BE TURNED OFF
WHAT THE HECK??? CONTROL FREAKS MUCH??
Business Advice FB groups are like going back to pre-school. You can share that on Wednesday?? So, it's like 'sharing day' when we were kids? You can't bring your toy to school until 'sharing day' and then you can't actually play with your toy, you can just hold it out for everyone to look at and then put it back in your cubby ... it's weird, no??
Aside from the fact that we are ADULTS who shouldn't be bossed around by other ADULTS wearing a 'mediator' hat on Facebook, I will tell you another reason I despise FB Groups:
IF YOU'RE READING OR COMMENTING IN A FB GROUP THEN YOU AREN'T 'DOING' IN THE REAL WORLD WHERE IT MATTERS
The times I do go into a FB group to 'check out' the current situation I get so sad!! It's literally STRINGS of comments of people who have an opinion ... HUNDREDS of comments on one post of people going back and forth about 'how things should be' and if they are there doing that ... then ... well, what is their business doing?
I mentioned in a post I wrote about how I conquered being a business owner again after losing everything I shared the way I feel about business FB groups - The truth is: if you are in there giving your opinion and commenting back and forth then you aren't DOING ANYTHING. Right??
I also really have a thing against the people running the show in those groups ... if you truly care about business owners being successful then start your group and walk away. Let them do what you created the group for them to do ... don't put on your 'bossy pants' and shut off strings. It's stupid.
The only business FB groups I really like and believe in are the ones where the FB group leader is out to HELP YOU. For instance, Lauren of Every Last Detail has a FB group for her paying members where SHE POSTS about specific things the members can take advantage of ... styled shoot ideas, weddings she'd like to feature, helpful tips about social media or blogging ... SHE IS THE ONE posting and leading the discussions. That is VERY HELPFUL and I believe serves a much needed purpose.
So ask yourself ... is the FB group you are participating in more of an 'ego boost' for all the business owners out there who have an opinion and more overwhelming than helpful?? Is the 'leader' of the group more of a control freak who doesn't actually 'do anything' except remind people of the rules?? If so, I'd call that group a complete waste of time ;)
Get out there and DO rather than sit and stare at FB ... it will be much better in the long run ;)
