“I CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG! SO I WILL HIRE SOMEONE MEDIOCRE INSTEAD WHO IS AVAILABLE NOW!!!”

So, I have these two Doodles (Easton who is a GoldenDoodle and Breuer who is a Bernadoodle) … I love them but they have A LOT OF hair … like, a lot … it’s curly, it gets in their eyes, it gets filled with dirt … it’s a thing and because I love them, we hire groomers to handle it for us. We use a grooming place that is ‘ok’ … but the people there aren’t that nice, I always have to drive 35 minutes each way to get there (which I wouldn’t mind if I really LOVED the place I used), after I drop them off it’s always a guessing game of when I need to go back to get them and I usually have to call them to micro-manage their ability to communicate … and then when I do get my puppies from the place? One is typically hurt and the other looks like a version of a Doodle that most people would giggle at … it’s not great … in fact most people would ask:

WHY DO YOU STILL USE THEM?

I used them because I didn’t have to wait … so instead of just waiting 3-4 months to get the right, amazing groomer, I used a mediocre groomer who made me irritated every time I used them because I could book a couple weeks out …

fast forward to where I am now:

There is an amazing local groomer who our breeder uses and every time I see her dogs with their freshly cut hair that is oh-so clean and not at all filled with dirt, I stop and say: “WOW, your dogs look INCREDIBLE!!!” And Laura (my breeder) always says: “you need to see Monica” … to which I say: “the wait is too long” … fast forward to yesterday at the dog park … I run into a family who has a Doodle and I immediately compliment the dog’s hair … and who do they use???? Yep, Monica. Which brings me to this blog post:

DON’T BE THE PERSON WHO HIRES A MEDIOCRE SERVICE PROVIDER WHO MAKES YOU CRANKY EVERY TIME YOU PAY THEM, WHEN YOU CAN WAIT FOR THE REAL DEAL.

I don’t like waiting. I want what I want right then and I don’t want to wait. But using this example, it doesn’t always work for me … all this time that I could have been on Monica’s schedule waiting to see her, I fought the idea instead because 3-4 months felt like an eternity … but here we are, a month out from when I could have been on her books ALREADY …

MY POINT?

If you keep seeing the work of someone and you LOVE what they do, don’t let time make you hire someone mediocre instead … the BEST at what they do are worth the wait … your investment is worthy of an incredible outcome/product in the end … I messaged Monica today and will be getting on her schedule for whenever she can take me … and I’m so excited!
