IS YOUR NAME HARD TO REMEMBER OR HARD TO SPELL?

Choosing a name for your business can be hard to do … I wrote a blog post about things to do while deciding that is linked in that first line of this post that you may find helpful. One thing I didn't list was this:

IF YOUR NAME IS HARD TO SPELL, PRONOUNCE, OR REMEMBER … SHOULD YOU USE IT IN YOUR BUSINESS TITLE?

I am constantly crediting vendors for my clients … photographers, designers, floral artists … I’ve seen it all … and when I get a name that I can’t remember how to spell after the 3rd or 4th time of typing it out … that’s a problem.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR NAME IS HARD TO REMEMBER?

That is a tough one … considering you’ve been used to it your entire life … I could make something up …. like: if your last name has more than 8 letters, it’s hard …. but there are a lot of easy to remember last names that have more than 8 letters, so that’s out … I want to say: you just know … but that’s not very helpful either.

All I know is that when someone hears about you or is referred to you or reads your credit in a published post and wants to REMEMBER so they can find you later, it’s going to make it a lot harder if your name is unique or hard to spell. You could be unknowingly having a lot of potential clients out there doing this:

UGH, I FOUND THE MOST AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHER THAT I WANT TO WORK WITH, BUT I CAN’T REMEMBER THEIR NAME

or ….

I TRIED GOOGLING THEM AND NOTHING CAME UP … I’M PROBABLY SPELLING IT WRONG

… and nobody wants that.
