IT'S BETTER TO SHARE 3 GREAT THINGS, THAN 12 MEDIOCRE THINGS

I preach a lot on The Editor’s Touch blog about not letting your marketing materials get DATED … marketing materials for your business are any of the following:

  • your website

  • your logo

  • your headshots

  • your portfolio

  • the photos on your website

  • your social media feeds

  • your ads

  • the fonts you use for your ‘stuff’

  • you

Basically, anything VISIBLE that represents you and your business … when it comes down to your PORTFOLIO of work, a lot of my clients believe that they need to share it all … have a HUGE portfolio of their work so that they WOW potential clients … and to that I say:

NOT IF IT’S UGLY!!!

If you have a huge portfolio of work and most of it is gross … well, that’s a BAD visual for potential clients to see!

Gross can mean any of the following:

  • horrible, terrifying photography (yikes!!)

  • bad, cheap details (shudder!!)

  • aaaaaannnnnnnd … I think that covers it!

Look, bad photography is the killer of all things awesome … if you sprinkle your website with ugly images then what happens!? : DING, DING, DING - your website will in fact be UGLY … and what do I like to do!?

REMOVE ‘THE UGLY’ FROM THE INTERNET ONE WEBSITE AT A TIME

And how do I do that!!?? Aside from being EXTREMELY PICKY and VERY SENSITIVE to ugly sh*t, I am VERY SELECTIVE with what I agree (yes, agree) for my clients to have representing them online. If your portfolio is filled with 12 mediocre galleries - well, then potential clients will get a mediocre vibe about your services! It’s as simple as that.

WORRIED THAT YOUR PORTFOLIO DOESN’T STACK UP IF YOU REMOVE ‘THE UGLY’ FROM IT!?

Then start getting busy being involved in editorial shoots … reach out to local professionals … make connections … network … get your little (or big!) booty out there flexing your creative muscles and GROW your portfolio where you can CONTROL it … choose the BEST PHOTOGRAPHERS to work with … and then fill your website with those images … let those BEAUTIFUL images attract the client that will help you grow your portfolio with the real weddings and events you’ve always dreamed of having ;)
