REELS ON INSTAGRAM ... SUPER COOL ... LOVE THE ANALYTICS ... BUT DO THEY LEAD TO NEW CLIENTS?
As someone who preaches the ‘NEVER GET COMFY IN BUSINESS’ mindset here on this blog … I can’t not take my own advice … let’s face it:
SOCIAL MEDIA IS A FULL TIME JOB ON ITS OWN
I was comfy … in the most uncomfortable way a business owner can be comfy … during the day, a conversation like this would take place in my head:
ME: SH*T … I HAVEN’T POSTED TO INSTAGRAM YET TODAY …
ME: IT’S FINE … NOBODY SEES THEM ANYWAY BECAUSE OF THE DUMB AF ALGORITHM …
ME: BUT WHAT IF TODAY IS THE DAY THE POST GOES CRAZY VIRAL!!!
ME: FINE … WE’LL POST SOMETHING … WHAT DO YOU WANT TO POST …
ME: CAN YOU PICK??? I HATE CHOOSING!!!!
… and on and on it goes until I pick something and post it … and hear crickets … now, one thing I do know is that even if I don’t get many ‘likes’ or comments one my posts, I do get more traffic to my website on days I am a little Instagram crazy … so something works … and on the weeks I am SUPER annoyingly posting to Instagram and Stories, I do get way more inquiries … it’s impossible to not link the two … my point? Even if your posts get 1 or 2 ‘heart actions’ on them … it may be doing more then you think to keep on posting …
BUT NOW INSTAGRAM SAYS: REELS ARE THE THING >>> YOU GOTTA REEL
Reeeeeeeelly?????? Another thing!!!!???? UGH … or is it??? When Reels first came out, I was like: that’s not my jam … I saw all the cool Reels other business owners were making and got super intimidated … I would dip a toe in the Reel pool and give it my best go … and then immediately remove it from my profile grid … I never thought I’d embrace the Reel life … until recently … on June 26th I posted a Reel and it got 2,537 plays … which made me realize that people DO SEE my posts!!! Since that day I have shared 20 Reels … they are showcased below with the number of plays each Reel received:
Now, obviously not everything is a hit … but my goal is to continue to post Reels every week because I’ve noticed that my website traffic has increased by a lot since starting the Reels …
One thing I’ve been trying is taking my most popular blog posts on The Editor’s Touch and making them into Reels … one of the blog posts I wrote called: If I Still Blogged To Brides … This is What I’d Tell Them Today … was broken up into a 3 part Reel … and boy has it had a lot of traction!!!

I’m still playing around with my approach … and I still don’t know if a popular Reel equals more clients … my goal isn’t to become ‘Instagram Famous’ … my goal is to grow my business, design more websites that create success for my clients, and make an income that supports my family … only time will tell if Reels are another strategy to make that goal reality …
