I'M NOT SET UP TO TEACH MY KIDS FROM HOME - AND BEYOND THAT: I DON'T WANT TO

I love my children … I love hugging them, watching them do things they enjoy and are working towards being great at … I love supporting them in what they are doing … I love disciplining them when I know what they need the most are boundaries and to be able to trust that their dad and I will set up structure. I love spending the money I worked hard to earn on their piano lessons and baseball clinics … I love driving them to their drama clubs and select baseball team practices … BUT:

I AM NOT A TEACHER WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS BRING AND I HAVE ZERO INTEREST IN TRYING TO BE.

I have a job - I design websites, I blog to business owners and other stay at home moms. I am a mom, yes … but a teacher: I AM NOT. And I feel like it should be ok and acceptable to say:

I DON’T WANT TO DO THAT.

And not even in a whiny way … not in a: I don’t want to adult today way … but in a:

I HAVE ENOUGH F*CKING CRAP TO DO WAY.

I have my plate FULL … I have plenty to try to do. During a crisis like this Coronavirus has created where people are panicking and worried … and schools are being closed for weeks at a time … and travelers or the sick are being quarantined … and we are mourning deaths or worried about our elderly parents … and not knowing what the future holds, there is even MORE on our plates.

I’m going to feel ZERO guilt going forward about not adding ‘being a teacher to my kids’ to that list of stuff. And I’m going to urge us, as parents, to not make other parents feel guilty about not running school from their homes either during all this. I am also so over this statement that I keep seeing on Facebook from other parents:

“Just do what you can, a little in the morning and a little in the afternoon.”

Uhh, Nancy, I was barely hanging on before … so doing what I can is NOT doing it … not running a school from my home. Thank you.

MORE SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND AROUND THE WORLD WILL BE CLOSING.

And you know what!!?? The kids will be ok. They will. They may get better at Fortnite or Mario Kart and there may be more snuggles on the couch watching movies … they may temporarily forget about long division … or how to add fractions … but:

THEY WILL BE OK.

Missing a few weeks or months of school will not break them … and if you are a mom or dad who are struggling with how heavy it feels to see all the FB posts from other parents saying how much they LOVE remote learning and how it’s the best thing ever and you don’t fit into that bubble??? IT’S OK. It’s ok to simply ‘not want to’ because that’s an honest reason and this is a sh*tty situation for all of us.

XO~ Heather
