CANCEL CULTURE IS RUINING SMALL BUSINESSES

I am just going to say it:

I’M DISGUSTED

I’m disgusted with myself, I’m disgusted with this country, I’m disgusted with the terrible things I keep seeing on social media (especially on Facebook) … I’m fed up and I’m sad.

CANCEL CULTURE IS RUINING THIS WORLD AND THIS COUNTRY

I was hoping it’d go away … this idea that if you aren’t ‘with someone and their politics’ then they are dead to you … I naively thought it would run its course and we’d all go back to supporting each other because we are people working hard, doing the best we can, and we acknowledge that in other people who are hustling each day to run their small businesses.

And yes, I’m VERY AWARE that there are other issues in the world and our country, but today I am speaking to SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS and this idea that we ‘cancel, hate, and attack’ someone for speaking a truth that doesn’t line up with our own.

This week I have seen people ripping apart business owners on Facebook … some even posting comments taken out of context … and outing and shaming other business owners in their SAME INDUSTRY publicly.

WHATEVER WAY YOU CUT IT, THIS IS WRONG

Publicly shaming someone in a separate post after you block them and taking a comment OUT OF CONTEXT and POSTING IT PUBLICLY to your feed is wrong. PERIOD.

I’m ashamed that when I see these things on Facebook I’m not strong enough to take a stand and comment how wrong it is. That fear of having my own business ‘canceled’ stops me from standing up for what is right.

As I stated above:

I’M DISGUSTED.

We are all people … we are small business owners, but WE ARE PEOPLE. We are people with flaws and feelings, we are people who have bad days … we are people who have tempers and say things we shouldn’t … we are people who see things differently than our neighbors do based on how we look at it and what our life experiences have been. To CANCEL or try to cancel another small business owner based on a back and forth conversation you had with them in a separate post by posting their comment ONLY disgusts me … and it should disgust everyone.

I have my views … some of which YOU WON’T AGREE WITH! You have views that I probably won’t agree with 100% too! And that’s ok. It’s when people turn it ugly and try to attack and demean that are ripping this country, the creative industry, and our emotional state of being apart.

What is this industry of small business owners coming to? Are we only going to work with other people and refer other creative entrepreneurs whom we see eye to eye with? If you hate Trump, will you ONLY work with other industry business owners who also hate him? If you are for Trump, are you ONLY going to associate yourself with business owners who are voting for him?

I don’t know what to think at this point … I don’t know how this blog post will be received … I guess only time will tell.
