IF YOU HAVE A WEBSITE, IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU ANSWER THESE 5 QUESTIONS!

Since the day I launched The Editor’s Touch website, I posed these questions to my audience on my website design informational page:

  • Has your website gone over 3 years without being touched?

  • Are you getting clicks from your advertising outlets that rarely lead to hires?

  • Do you go to your website and immediately wish it looked different?

  • Are there new companies launching in your area that you fear will start to take business away from you?

  • Does your website break or work strangely on mobile devices?

As you read this, if the answers to those questions don’t make you feel confident and secure with the online face of your business, you most likely need to hire a website designer to fix it!

LET’S GO THROUGH EACH QUESTION 1 BY 1 …

HAS YOUR WEBSITE GONE 3 YEARS WITHOUT BEING TOUCHED?

If your website is going into year 3 without being rebranded, updated, redesigned, etc, etc, etc … then it’s probably VERY dated … it might even be doing your business harm! A lot of us depended on Instagram as our “website” for the last 2-3 years and now that they have adjusted their algorithm, we all need our website to kick ass more than ever! Social media is NOT dependable … and even if you are getting a ton of views on IG, they are still visiting your website.

ARE YOU GETTING CLICKS FROM YOUR ADVERTISING OUTLETS THAT RARELY LEAD TO HIRES?

It sucks the big one when you spend a ton of money on marketing and don’t see that money come back to you - ROI - but is the problem the ads or is the problem what the people SEE when they click from your ad?? If you go to your analytics and see that the ads are driving traffic to your website, but it’s not reflecting in your ‘hires’ then the issue is most likely your website and what it’s telling people about your company.

DO YOU GO TO YOUR WEBSITE AND IMMEDIATELY WISH IT LOOKED DIFFERENT?

So many of my clients tell me how much they hate their websites during our initial consultation ... they say they go online, click in and go: ICK, YUCK, GROSS ... that's not a good sign.  If you HATE your website how are you supposed to feel excited and passionate about your business?  How are you supposed to feel confident?

One of the things I love the most about launching websites for my clients that they are OVER THE MOON OBSESSED WITH is the fact that their confidence makes a major leap.  Their motivation to get potential clients looking in their direction jumps to crazy high levels and what happens then??? The inquiries don’t stop coming in!

ARE THERE NEW COMPANIES CROPPING UP IN YOUR AREA THAT YOU FEEL WILL START TAKING BUSINESS AWAY FROM YOU?

These days a business can start one day and be successful within a year - achieve things it used to take 5 years to make happen.  The people coming up are faster, smarter about social media, and they are HUNGRY.  They've seen what YOU have done and they want it.  They learned by watching and they are tech savvy.  These people are dangerous to an already established company.

I'm dangerous.  I can take a newbie wedding professional and mold them into something that looks and acts like it has been there for years.  My eye for detail, design, and the *right* images to use make me lethal and a huge asset to a new company who may not have a huge portfolio yet.  My experience in the wedding industry makes me one of the most unique businesses because I've seen it all - from my days as a wedding coordinator to running a wedding blog - to growing my own social media following of over 250,000 organically - to understanding the ins and outs of blogging to grow traffic. I have taken brand new wedding vendors and built them a website that makes people stick around - that makes people call them.  My clients see HUGE jumps in the clients and the budgets they are working with after their websites launch. This is how POWERFUL a well built website can be.

BONUS POST:

IS YOUR WEBSITE FRUSTRATING TO USE ON A MOBILE DEVICE?

How many times have you picked up your phone today?  How often are you sitting on the couch and look over at your desktop computer that is 10 feet away and think 'that's way too far away' and reach for your phone to go online instead?? Me!!  Me!!  Me!! So, here's my next question:  When is the last time you took a look at your website on a phone?? Your potential clients are making up for 55-65% of your mobile traffic … and if they don’t like what they see or if working your website on a mobile device frustrates them … they will click out so fast …

If you didn’t love the feeling you have about your website when you answered these questions, the good news is that it’s NEVER TOO LATE to update your website … there are so many talented website designers out there (including myself!) … so find a designer that fits your needs and get on their calendar! The best ones book up, so don’t wait until the last minute to get the process going :)
