THE 'I WILL NEVER BE HAPPY NO MATTER WHAT' CLIENT
We’ve all had ‘that client’ … you bend over backwards for this client, you make beautiful things for this client, you respond to emails faster than fast for this client … you drop everything to hop on calls with this client … but something in your gut is always whispering to you:
THIS CLIENT IS A ‘I WILL NEVER BE HAPPY’ CLIENT
The ‘I Will Never Be Happy’ client is tricky … and for a people pleaser, like me, even trickier … It’s always hard for me to look at a situation and not be able to find MY PIECE … like, what I did wrong … you know? If I’m looking and wanting to walk away accountable so I can grow and I can’t find sh*t … then I just start to get mad … lol.
CLIENTS ARE PEOPLE AND PEOPLE CAN BE UNREASONABLE
When I’m met with a client who is upset with me for ‘whatever they made up in their head to be upset about’ and I look at the product I created, the time and love I put into it, and I look at my communication and see that I was very transparent the entire time … and this client is STILL UPSET … I have to do this:
IT’S NOT ME, IT’S THEM.
I have to tell myself: they do this with everyone!!! It’s not a ‘you thing’ … it’s a them thing. They aren’t happy because ‘they’ aren’t happy. And I have to live with the fact that since it’s not a ‘me thing’ and this is just who they are, other people are noticing it too … so if they bad mouth you, it’s probably also possible that who they are talking to get that they always do this sort of thing …
I will go to great lengths for my clients … I am a relationship person through and through … I will work for free, I will promote my clients, I will refer them, I will give them business advice and help them figure things out for their business to help it become even more successful … << those are things I THRIVE ON … but when clients turn on me and become mean for ZERO REASON whatsoever … it makes me turn too … which is just natural.
2020 has been a rough year … people are grumpier than usual … we’ve all been through a lot … some of us more than others … it’s important for us all to show a lot of grace right now and be thankful for what we DO HAVE and try hard to forget the things we can’t control … if you have hired someone to do a job, it’s still important to treat them well … we are all people doing the best we can.
